Bilingual Tanka Reading & Talk with Ms. M. Chula, President of TSA

2014_11_24_01.jpg Nov. 24,

We had a gathering of English-Japanese tanka reading and talk with Ms. Margaret Chula, President of Tanka Society of America, in Akasaka, Tokyo. Those who are active not only in the poetry world but also many other fields gathered, and we were able to spend peaceful and wonderful time together. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude towards everyone came to the gathering on the last day of long weekend of holidaymakers weather.
2014_11_24_02.jpg Ms. Chula presented the tanka selected from her anthology, "Just This," and I did the translated version in Japanese.
2014_11_24_03.jpg I presented some of my tanka posted in overseas tanka journals. It also served as an introduction of these magazines to the participants, as well.
2014_11_24_04.jpg Ms. Chula, who loves Japan and have been here many times before, told me, "(this gathering) became one of the best memories I have in Tokyo." It was supremely gratifying words to me, because I made all the arrangements such as selecting a venue, posting notifications, and miscellaneous tasks on the day.
2014_11_24_05.jpg About the tanka reading in this gathering.
Together with percussion background music, We presented tanka which were selected from my works posted in overseas tanka journals and other poetry publications, including Rattle magazine to be published in Mar., 2015.
* "Wa": Bilingual anthology for which I selected tanka from Ms. Chula's anthology "Just This", and translated into Japanese.
2014_11_24_06.jpg An elegant Soba restaurant was selected for the venue of this gathering. It is close to the hotel where Ms. Chula stayed, and I knew Ms. Chula loves Japanese food.
